Fifty chores is the order of the day. Get up and get r done. While the boss was at work my troops and I fortified the home front. We took a load to the dump, pulled weeds, moped floors, washed windows, mowed the lawn, vacuumed carpets, dishes, bathrooms. You get the idea. Then off to Great Clips for a not so great clip. Fry's has meat for my stew. This is a Sikestonian Original. Get out your note pads people. I call it the Manager's Special. All the spices in the world won't allow this one to work with out aged stew beef. That's the magic. Look for the oldest meat on the shelf marked Managers Special and at half price you'll have enough gas money to get back home.
Recipe
Managers Special stew beef 2lbs
1 small Cabbage
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire
2 tbsp Cold Mountain rub
Dash of Hickory liquid smoke
1 Jar Ragu six cheese spaghetti sauce
1 can of corn
1 can garbanzo beans
1 Cyrano pepper
Fresh cut Cilantro
Dash lime juice
1 small 7oz can diced green chillies
2 cloves garlic
2 tbsp dried onion flakes
1/2 can beer
Marinade the meat for four hours. Combine stew beef, Worcestershire, beer, red wine vinegar and rub in a bag and go mad cow on it. Pull it out every so often and beat it up some more.
Cold Mountain home made rub A simple North Carolina Recipe:
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup paprika (Sweet or hot)
1/2 cup Black Pepper
1/2 cup Salt
That's right math majors. It makes 2 cups.
Take the meat out of the cooler and drain the juices out of the bag into a saute pan and let it reduce. Transfer the meat to the BBQ heated to 500 degrees minimum. Sear the meat on the outside. Be sure to have some apple or hickory wood smoke chips in there somewhere.
Have the remaining ingredients cooking int the crock pot during preperation. Put in a half cup of beef stock or two bullion cubes in same amount of water. Add the reduces juices, and kicked up aged stew meat to the crock. Keep on high for about three hours. Let the cabbage determine the cooking time. I like my cabbage to be just a bit stiff.
Disclaimer: Results may vary depending on the age of the beef. This delightful method of cooking requires the meat to be cooked right away as rotten meat doesn't keep very long.
What's a long day with out a D'back's baseball game. We had a great time with friends even thought we got beat. They should have had eaten some managers special before the game. The fire works display was awesome. The stadium lights go dark and 20,000 fans go silent. Crack, Boom! It's actually a rather decent fireworks display.
Happy Birthday Twins!!!!

Jared as always you make me laugh! Sounds like a very interesting week for you. The "stew" sounds delightful, even better is your story about the making of the stew! We had a great time with your brothers and sisters today, it was cool and overcast today but no rain so we enjoyed several hours at Waverly Park on Lake Washington having a picnic and just doing our best to keep up with the little ones. Hope you and Jenni and the boys enjoyed your weekend as well. Love to all, Mom
Thanks for the call! love you.
